Where To Eat In Prague

Where To Eat In Prague

One thing I love the most about traveling is trying all the different food of course!  Before any trip, I try to do a little research on what type of food a particular region or country is known for and some of their popular dishes. This way I can at least have an idea of what I may or may not like when handed a menu. However, some of the best dishes I’ve had were ones that I wasn’t expecting to try, so sometimes it’s best to just be spontaneous and go for it. The food in Prague is very cheap compared to what we pay in the U.S. so that naturally is an added bonus for a food lover like myself.

Here’s a quick list of my favorite spots that we ate at during our trip:

For Breakfast:

Bakeshop

If you want to stop in for a quick coffee and croissant this is the perfect spot. It is close to Old Town Square, but not so close that it is filled with tourists. They have a huge pastry selection that is arranged in a way that will make your mouth water looking at all of it. It was fun to see some locals stopping in for what seemed like possibly part of their morning routine.

Home Kitchen

I believe there are several locations for Home Kitchen, but we went to the one closest to the Jewish Museum. The inside was very cute with a mix of earthy and artsy décor. Along one of the walls they had fresh loaves of bread which resulted in a lovely aroma that filled the whole restaurant. My friend ordered eggs with fresh bread and I went with the pancakes.

For Lunch:

Velkopřevorský Mlýn

If you are heading over to the Lennon Wall or walking the Charles Bridge, stop by this unique spot for some delicious Czech food. While heading over to the wall we stumbled upon this gem and decided to give it a shot. I tried the beef goulash with potato pancakes and I don’t know much about traditional Czech food but in my opinion it did not disappoint.

Villa Richter

This restaurant was very close to the castle and we had been planning to stop by here after seeing it online. I have to admit, the main thing that drew us in was the view, but the food was just as good. The only heads up I would offer would be that it was much fancier  than we were expecting. We felt a bit under dressed but the staff didn’t seem to mind. I’m not sure what their dinner menu is like but the lunch menu was about the same prices you’d pay at an average restaurant in the United States. I felt like royalty here because of the interior design and the fine dining etiquette by the servers.

Las Adelitas

If you’re craving some Mexican, I would highly recommend this little spot near Old Town Square. We weren’t expecting to find good Mexican food in Prague, but this restaurant proved us wrong. Even though it is right next to Old Town Square, it is slightly hidden since you have to go down some stairs to enter it. The restaurant is small but when we went it wasn’t very busy so this wasn’t  an issue.

For Dinner:

Pizza Nuova

This was the first meal we had in Prague after we had arrived in the city and got settled into our Airbnb. Maybe I am a little biased because our hunger was at an all time high, but this pizza hit the spot. One pizza was the perfect size to be shared by two people and the prices followed the same low-cost trend as many other places in Prague.

Joy Burger

This restaurant is close to Old Town Square and all the shops on Na Příkopě street. It has a laid back atmosphere and a decent variety of burgers to choose from along with other options as well.

Yami Sushi Bistro

It’s good to switch things up so if you’re a sushi lover like myself you won’t be disappointed here. We had an early dinner so the restaurant was almost empty but it seemed that there were a good number of tables with a ‘Reserved’ sign placed on them. Judging by that, I am assuming reservations might be a good idea if you plan on going during regular dinner hours. We loved the way our sushi was presented on a cute wooden boat.

Where Not to Eat:

Marina Ristorante

Even though it may be tempting because it looks so nice from the outside, don’t do it! We ignored all the bad reviews and tried to give it the benefit of the doubt and we definitely regretted doing so. After being sat at a table we waited and waited for someone to come by to at least take our drink order and we finally had to wave someone down. The waiter was extremely rude, and we waited over an hour for our appetizer, let alone our actual entree. We noticed other tables having the same exact issue, so it just was not a fun time at all.
